Applied Optics At NMSU

The Applied Optics Programs at New Mexico State University (NMSU) offers unique opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in applied optics or optical engineering by combining the optics resources of five departments:

Electrical and Computer Engineering

 Mechanical Engineering

 Physics

 Chemistry

 Astronomy

Students can receive their degrees from any one of the departments, listed above, while learning the principles and applications of optics.

Excellent cooperation among departments provides each student with different, but complementary, perspectives.

Student/teacher interaction is an integral aspect of the graduate student's experience at
NMSU. Much work is done on a one-on-one basis, providing an excellent atmosphere for learning.

Students are given many opportunities to work with modern optical devices in the laboratory.

All graduate students are required to take laboratory courses that provide them with valuable hands-on experience.
